Rider Weight Policy – Putting Horse Welfare First

At Netherton Equestrian, the wellbeing of our horses is at the heart of everything we do. To
ensure their comfort, soundness, and longevity, we have set clear rider weight limits based on
experience level, type of activity, and the capabilities of our horses.

Beginner Riders: Maximum 12 stone (76kg)
Beginner riders often require additional support from the horse due to balance and
coordination as they develop confidence. To reduce strain and protect our horses, the
maximum rider weight for beginner lessons is 12 stone.

Experienced Riders: Up to 14 stone (89kg)
For experienced riders with an independent seat and balanced riding position, we may be able
to accommodate a maximum weight of up to 14 stone, depending on horse availability and
the nature of the session. This is assessed on a case-by-case basis for horse and rider safety.

These limits are in line with current equine welfare research and are regularly reviewed by
our coaching and horse care teams.

We understand that this may be disappointing for some riders and appreciate your
understanding. Our priority is to protect our horses from discomfort and injury, allowing
them to continue enjoying their work and forming partnerships with our riders.
If you have any questions or would like to speak with us about your suitability for lessons or
activities, please get in touch — we’re happy to help.

Thank you for supporting horse welfare at Netherton.

Riding Lesson Media Policy – No Filming During
Lessons

To ensure a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment for all riders and instructors,
we kindly ask that no video recording or filming is permitted during riding lessons at
Netherton Equestrian.
This policy is in place to:
- Protect the privacy of all participants and instructors
- Maintain full concentration during the lesson
- Support a calm and distraction-free atmosphere for horses and riders

Want a Photo? Just Ask!
We understand that many riders like to capture memories or progress. If time allows, you're
welcome to ask your instructor for a photo before or after your lesson, and we will do our
best to accommodate when appropriate.

CCTV Notice
Please be aware that CCTV is in operation in all arenas for safety, training review, and
security purposes.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and
respectful environment for everyone at Netherton.
